Dr. Roslyn Crisp of Burlington, President of the North Carolina Dental Society, emphasized the critical need for access to dental care in North Carolina and highlighted how the NCDS Foundation’s Missions of Mercy clinic will provide essential services to adults in need across the Triad.

HIGH POINT — Adults who need dental care but don’t have the means to pay for it can have their needs met for free this weekend, courtesy of the N.C. Dental Society.

Missions of Mercy, an initiative of the N.C. Dental Society Foundation, will sponsor a free mobile dental clinic Friday and Saturday at Williams Memorial CME Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Road. The doors will open at 6 a.m., and patients are encouraged to arrive early, as they will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We just ask that they come with a good attitude and patience, because it takes us a while to get through them all sometimes,” said Dr. Roslyn Crisp, president of the N.C. Dental Society and a clinic volunteer.

Staffed by at least a hundred volunteer licensed dentists, as well as volunteer dental assistants, hygienists and community volunteers, the clinic will provide complimentary dental procedures for adults who cannot afford or do not have access to oral health care.

“We won’t be doing any really extensive procedures, but we’ll be doing examinations, cleanings, X-rays, fillings and extractions,” Crisp said. “We’ll also have an endodontic specialist coming Friday morning, so there might be some single root canals being done.”

Crisp stressed that the two-day clinic is for adult patients only.

Clinic organizers expect to treat as many as 800 individuals over two days. Since its founding in 2003, Missions of Mercy has provided more than $38 million in free dental care to more than 81,000 adults.

“It’s a good feeling to be able to make a difference in these people’s lives,” Crisp said. “Some of them have been living with pain and discomfort for months, and it feels good to be able to help them.”
