UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Neighbors in Union County have expressed concerns about fluoride in water treatment systems.

Following the discussion during a Jan. 16, 2024, meeting, commissioners asked staff members to draft an ordinance amendment prohibiting the addition of fluoride in county-owned water treatment systems.

If this amendment were to pass, it would only be applicable to water systems the county has complete control over. For instance, the county would not be able to make changes to the Catawba River Water Supply Project, since they do not completely control it.
