Membership FAQ

Why should I join the North Carolina Dental Society?

The North Carolina Dental Society is the voice of the profession. Dentists face many challenges from negotiating with insurance companies to complying with government regulators to keeping up with professional development and running a successful business. Membership in the NC Dental Society helps you navigate those challenges and gives you an opportunity to shape the practice of dentistry in North Carolina. Membership in the NC Dental Society benefits dentistry, it benefits patients, and it benefits you. We are much stronger together than we are individually. Be part of something larger than yourself. Be part of the NC Dental Society. It’s the right thing to do.

What will NCDS membership do for me?

Running a successful practice means paying close attention to the cost of doing business. The NC Dental Society helps you maintain and grow your practice by keeping you up to date on advances in practice management and offering resources to make your practice more efficient. Our Endorsed Partners program brings you discounts on everything from professional liability insurance, accounts receivable management and collections to office supplies and equipment.

How do I apply?

Simply fill out the online application and your member information will be emailed to you.

Do I have to pay dues for the ADA, NCDS and my District society separately?

No. The NCDS invoice includes dues for the NC Dental Society, ADA and your District. The NC Dental Society then forwards the money to the ADA and your District.

Is it worth the money to join?

While membership in the NC Dental Society is, in the end, about supporting and improving the profession of dentistry and the oral health of North Carolina, our members find that the benefits far outweigh the cost of their dues, and some benefits would be impossible to obtain by any other means.

It would cost a great deal for individual dentists if the ADA was not there to protect the interests of dentistry at the national level, or if the NCDS was not there to lobby for or against legislation affecting the profession. If a dentist had to hire experts to answer every regulatory or human resources question or problem that arose, pay the going rate for continuing dental education courses, or research every compliance issue on his or her own, the price would be significantly higher than the cost of membership.

Furthermore, participation in endorsed programs and services (including healthcare coverage, compliance assistance, professional liability insurance, office management) can provide members with significant savings. Many members are able to recoup a good deal of their dues dollars through the savings they receive by simply participating in these programs.

Are my dues tax-deductible?

Dues payments are deductible by members as an ordinary and necessary business expense. However, the portion of the ADA & NCDS dues that funds our lobbying efforts is not tax deductible. The amounts are spelled out on the invoice. Similarly, contributions to the Political Action Committee are not deductible.

How much is membership?

Full active dues are around $1,300. The NC Dental Society also offers a student rate, reduced rates for recent graduates and those just starting in practice, and discounts for retiring members. Six and twelve month installment plans are available.

When does my student membership expire?

Your student membership expires when you graduate.

At that point you will need to apply for a NCDS membership.  NCDS will be hosting a Signing Day at your school during the end of your fourth year.  At that event you will fill out and sign your application for NCDS.  Contact your ASDA leaders for the dates this year.

Why should dental students sign-up at Signing Day?

Well, we need your support of organized dentistry AND if you sign up during the year you graduate, you are enrolled in our new graduate reduced dues structure.

June - December of graduating year = $0 dues
1st Full Year Out of School = $0 dues
2nd Full Year Out of School = 50% off regular dues
3rd Full Year Out of School = Regular dues

Don’t miss out on reduced dues- Sign Up!

*NCDS offers a 12 month Installment Dues option as well*
