The NC Dental Society Foundation is helping a local organization save smiles in Central North Carolina. Friday, November 17, the Foundation represented a check for $25,000 to the Wake Smiles Dental Clinic to help the clinic provide dental care to people who can’t otherwise afford it in Wake County.

“Wake Smiles plays a critical role in helping people who otherwise could simply not afford dental care. Whether it’s helping patients in dental crisis, or providing preventive and restorative care, we applaud your efforts,” said Dr. Stan Hardesty, a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Wake Smiles works to improve oral health for people in Wake County who can’t otherwise afford care. Last year alone, Wake Smiles dentists volunteered 600 hours of their time to help more than 700 patients. The clinic will use the Foundation grant to help fund a volunteer coordinator, whose job is to recruit dentist volunteers. More volunteers will allow for expanded clinic hours and increased patient visits.

In 2017, the North Carolina Dental Society consolidated its charitable efforts and established the NC Dental Society Foundation. The Foundation funds local efforts to help those suffering from poor oral health, and helps provide access to dental care for people in need.
