Sandhills Sentinel: FirstHealth Dental Care receives award from NC Dental Society Foundation

FirstHealth Dental Care is one of two recipients of the 2022 Dental Public Health Award.

Given by the NC Dental Society Foundation, the award honors FirstHealth’s team for its efforts to provide dental services to children in Moore and Montgomery counties and for improving dental health outcomes in its communities.

Sharon Nicholson Harrell, DDS, MPH, FAGD, director of FirstHealth Dental Care, said the team is thrilled to be recognized for its efforts.

“We have been providing dental care to underserved children for nearly 25 years, and this award is a testament to the commitment from our entire team,” Harrell said. “They all work so hard to care for our patients, and I’m proud of their efforts.”

Since 1998, FirstHealth Dental Care has provided care to more than 30,000 underserved children in Moore and Montgomery counties. The dentists and staff at FirstHealth Dental Care provide care for children from birth to 21 years who receive Medicaid, Health Choice or are uninsured and qualify by income level.

During a first visit, dentists and staff will also educate parents about how to help children develop good dental habits at an early age. Services provided at FirstHealth Dental Care for children include:
Cleanings
Silver and white fillings
