The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation Endowment is helping a local community outreach program dedicated to serving military forces and veterans across the state. In partnership with the NC Community Foundation, the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation has presented a $5,000 grant to Military Missions in Action (MMIA) to provide oral care products for homeless veterans.
“In supporting our homeless veterans, we all know that hygiene can be a challenge. By providing dental care kits to our homeless veterans, we can help reduce disease and tooth decay,” said Michael Dorman, Executive Director of MMIA. “In 2019, Military Missions in Action will be able to distribute over 4,000 dental care kits thanks to a grant from N.C. Dental Health Endowment.”
North Carolina is home to the fourth largest military population in the United States, and MMIA has remained committed to assisting veterans and armed forces through a its charitable initiatives. Since its founding in 2007, MMIA continues to serve soldiers, veterans and military families by collecting Christmas toys for children, donating care packages to deployed armed forces, and distributing dental kits for homeless veterans.
Since its inception, the NC Dental Society Foundation has worked to reduce barriers in oral health care for underserved populations across the state. The Foundation provides education, programs and clinics for citizens who can’t afford care, and funds local efforts to help those suffering from poor oral health. By partnering with the NC Community Foundation, it is able to make a bigger impact and deliver grants to help improve the quality of life of underserved citizens.
