NC Dental Society Foundation Grant Breaks Barriers for Uninsured North Carolinians Seeking Dental Treatment

The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation Endowment is restoring smiles to Wake County citizens.

The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation Endowment is restoring smiles to Wake County citizens. This month, the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation presented a $5,000 check endorsed by the NC Community Foundation to Wake Smiles of Raleigh.

Founded in 2001 by several dentists, Wake Smiles provides affordable, quality and comprehensive dental care for uninsured adults in Wake County. Wake Smiles is the only dental home in the county that cares for uninsured adults who fall within the 200% of poverty guidelines.

“We are dependent on the support of state and local agencies as well as volunteer local dentists to keep our doors open and functioning efficiently,” said Dianne Keyser, Executive Director of Wake Smiles. “Our deepest thanks to the Foundation; we would not be able to see as many patients without it.”

Since its inception, the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation has worked to reduce barriers in oral health care for underserved populations across the state. The Foundation provides free dental clinics for citizens who can’t afford care, and funds local efforts to help those suffering from poor oral health. The Foundation partners with the NC Community Foundation to deliver grants to help local organizations aligned with the mission of improving the quality of life of underserved citizens.
