An Overview

The DDS program is made possible through collaboration among the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped, the North Carolina Dental Society and the North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust Fund.

DDS is a program that provides donated dental care to people who are disabled, medically compromised, or elderly and who have no financial resources with which to pay for their extensive dental care needs.

DDS is not an emergency dental care program, nor does it talke care of routine cleanings.

More that 215 dentist and 30 dental labs across the state volunteer their time and energy to help DDS patients.

Do I Qualify?

Qualified applicants must be permanently disabled, critically ill, or elderly and have no financial resources with which to pay for the dental care they need. The DDS program is not designed to cover routine or emergency care.

DDS can accept children who are financially disadvantaged, although North Carolina Medicaid covers most of these cases.

Applicants must complete the attached form in order to be considered for the program. All DDS applicants are carefully screened by the DDS Coordinator to ensure they are qualified.

Application Process and Form

Applicants should complete the formusing the link below nd send it to Ms. Jennifer Caplain, DDS Coordinator. Her address is below as well as on the form.

DDS relies on the kindness of volunteer dentists for all of its services. Once your application is received, it will be processed and you will be placed on a waiting list forcare. When a dentist in your area is available to see you, Ms. Caplain will contact you directly to complete an intake interview and confirm your eligibility.

We apoligize, but due to the long list of pople in need of care, we are unable to take calls regarding your position on the waiting list. Wait times may range from a few months to more than one year depending on your location and volunteer availability.
