The practice of dentistry today requires a diversification of attention. The resources available to members make those distractions you face every day seem small and allow you to concentrate on your profession. The North Carolina Dental Society, the American Dental Association and your District Dental Society provide the support of tripartite membership: You are not alone. Membership also provides an opportunity to volunteer, to combine your individual voice with thousands of others that speak for the dental profession. For information on joining the NC Dental Society, please contact Richard Ducharme at rducharme@ncdental.org or call 1-800-662-8754.

NCDS HEALTHCARE PLAN
Sponsored by the North Carolina Dental Society and administered by North Carolina Services for Dentistry, Inc., the NCDS Healthcare Plan offers group healthcare coverage for full-time, actively practicing dentists and your full-time staff, spouses, and dependents, regardless of the number of employees, and regardless of health. You may go to any healthcare provider you choose, and you do not need a referral to see a specialist.

Plan A (Co-Pay Plan) includes co-pays (fixed costs) for in-network physician office visits and prescription drugs. Plan B (Deductible Plan) includes co-insurance (fixed percentage) reimbursement for physician office visits and prescription drugs, subject to a $1,000 annual medical deductible and a $100 annual prescription deductible. Neither plan is an HMO. If you would like more information, or if your group would like to apply for coverage, our Group Health Coordinator will be happy to help you. You can reach us, toll-free, at (877) 900-6237.

PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE
Covers liability resulting from professional services or failure to render professional services or acts or omissions of employees for whom you are legally responsible. Our endorsed carrier, Medical Security, covers North Carolina dentists and has five practicing dentists on its Board of Directors. For information write Ms Renee Pfefferle, 700 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27624 or call (919) 878-7518 or (800) 662-7917.

WASTE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
Many communities throughout North Carolina are concerned about the purity of water supplies and the decreasing availability of landfills. As concerned citizens and professionals, we have the responsibility to properly manage waste materials from our dental offices. NCDS has gathered information about the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and infectious wastes in dental offices. A list of vendors and recyclers for both X-ray wastes and amalgam wastes is included for your reference. A dental waste management Fact Sheet from the NC Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance in the NC Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources (DEHNR) is also included.

NEW MEMBER DISCOUNTS
North Carolina Dental Society and the American Dental Association grant discounts on membership for the early years of membership. Ranging from 100% to 25% for the first four years and including complimentary memberships for joining the year of graduation, we hope to make the cost of membership more attractive during the time the new dentist is working to establish the practice.

PANDA PROGRAM
The Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness is a coalition of professional oral health associations that afford a reporting point at your Society for suspected child abuse. For information, call the North Carolina Dental Society at (800) 662-8754.
