Surprisingly and sadly, dental supplies are not provided for U.S. soldiers. Men and women in uniform rely on dental care packages from family members or the USO of North Carolina for their oral health needs.
NCDS members can make a difference. In 2016, we held our inaugural NCDS Dental Supply Drive. Member dentists and industry suppliers collected more than 600 lbs. of dental supplies and financial contributions over a three-week period leading up to Veterans Day. The mission for our inaugural event was two-fold. First, we wanted to arm our troops with the supplies they need to maintain good oral hygiene. But, we also wanted to increase community awareness of the oral health needs of our troops.
600 lbs. of toothbrushes and toothpaste is an inspired launch, and we are only getting started. We'd like to thank you, our members, for making the inaugural NCDS Dental Supply Drive an overwhelming success. In partnership with the USO of North Carolina, the toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss and sugar-free gum you collected are directly benefiting our servicemen and women stationed at Ft. Bragg. Thank you for contributing and encouraging your patients to give back to our troops. Read about NCDS contributions in the Greensboro News & Record, Wilkes Journal-Patriot and The Stanley News.
