North Carolina Dental Society

The North Carolina Dental Society is an unincorporated association founded in 1856, whose primary constitutional objectives are "... to encourage the improvement of the oral health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry and encourage the maintenance of high standards of professional competence and practice, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves."

North Carolina Services for Dentistry

North Carolina Services for Dentistry, Inc. is a wholly owned for-profit corporation of the North Carolina Dental Society. North Carolina Services for Dentistry (NCSD) endorses and services group insurance programs that are offered to the members of the North Carolina Dental Society. Through careful planning and wise investing of the earnings from the group insurance programs, NCSD has been able to help build the Central Office in Cary, provide equipment and staff, and assist in keeping the NCDS membership dues low in comparison to other state dental societies. According to the leadership of North Carolina Services for Dentistry...."the success of NCSD has been due to the hard work of the NCSD Board of Directors and to the Dental Society for allowing us to perpetuate dentistry in North Carolina . . . "

M. Alec Parker, Executive Director  -  Extention 131
Dr. Parker comes to the North Carolina Dental Society after practicing for 28 years as a general dentist near Asheville. He participated in the NCDS transition period which will concluded at the end of 2007 when he assumed the role of Executive Director. He employs his unique perspective as a dentist on issues for which the Dental Society takes a position such as access to care, legislative concerns, and the future of dentistry in North Carolina. He has already initiated greater NCDS presence at UNC School of Dentistry and is supporting programs for the retiring dentist.

Priscilla M. “Prissy” Allen, Assistant Executive Director  -  Extention 127
Prissy's responsibilities are to coordinate legislative activities and manage the Annual Session.  She began her dental career in 1968 as a graduate of the UNC Dental Assistant Program and immediately became involved with the UNC Dental Alumni Association and later with the UNC Dental Parents, the Dental Foundation of North Carolina as well as some other affiliate dental programs.  She served as Editor of the North Carolina Dental Review for a number of years and as Director of Development for the UNC School of Dentistry.  Most recently, she has worked in two private family businesses and has kept active planning meetings and working with volunteer organizations.

Suellen Foust, Director of Insurance Programs  -  Extention 125
Suellen manages the NCDS Healthcare Plan for NC Services for Dentistry, Inc., and coordinates the insurance programs endorsed by the North Carolina Dental Society, including dental professional liability, individual life and disability, group life, group short and long-term disability, business owners/general liability, and long-term care insurance. Suellen has extensive experience in corporate marketing, communications, and graphic design. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University and a Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
